Some of my favorite scriptures…

On Love- the essential element

Love endures long and is patient and kind; Love never is envious nor boils over with jealousy, is not boastful or vainglorious, does not display itself haughtily.

It is not conceited (arrogant and inflated with pride); it is not rude (unmannerly) and does not act unbecomingly.  Love (God’s Love in us) does not insist on its own rights or its own way, for it is not touchy or fretful or resentful; it takes not account of the evil done to it [it pays no attention to a suffered wrong].

It does not rejoice at injustice and unrighteousness, but rejoices when right and truth prevail.

Love bears up under anything and everything that comes, is everready to believe the best of every person, its hopes are fadeless under all circumstances, and it endures everything [without weakening].

Love never fails [never fades out or becomes obsolete or comes to an end].

So faith, hope, love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is Love.

*Excerpts from 1 Corthinians 13:4-8, 13 Amplified Bible

When standing against fear:

He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall remain stable and fixed under the shadow of the Almighty [Whose power no foe can withstand].

I will say of the Lord, He is my Refuge and my Fortress, my God; on Him I lean and rely, and in Him I [confidently] trust!

For [then] He will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence.

[Then] He will cover you with His pinions, and under His wings shall you trust and find refuge; His truth and His faithfulness are a shield and a buckler.

You shall not be afraid of the terror of the night, nor of the arrow (the evil plots and slanders of the wicked) that flies by day,

Nor of the pestilence that stalks in darkness, nor of the destruction and sudden death that surprise and lay waste at noonday.

A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand, but it shall not come near you.

Only a spectator shall you be [yourself inaccessible in the secret place of the Most High] as you witness the reward of the wicked.

Because you have made the Lord your refuge, and the Most High your dwelling place,

There shall no evil befall you, nor any plague or calamity come near your tent.

For He will give His angels [especial] charge over you to accompany and defend and preserve you in all your ways [of obedience and service].

You shall tread upon the lion and adder; the young lion and the serpent shall you trample underfoot.

Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore will I deliver him; I will set him on high, because he knows and understands My name [has a personal knowledge of My mercy, love, and kindness- trusts and relies on Me, knowing I will never forsake him, no, never].

He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him.  With long life will I satisfy him and show him My salvation.

Psalm 91 Amplified Bible

I love, love, love the Book of Proverbs!  There is so much wisdom there!  Here’s a small taste…

When the scoffer is punished, the fool gets a lesson in being wise; but men of [godly] Wisdom and good sense learn by being instructed.

Proverbs 21:11 Amplified Bible

Through skillful and godly Wisdom is a house (a life, a home, a family) built, and by understanding it is established [on a sound and good foundation],

And by knowledge shall its chambers [of every area] be filled with all precious and pleasant riches.

Proverbs 24:3-4 Amplified Bible

The Virtuous Woman

A capable, intelligent, and virtuous woman- who is he who can find her?  She is far more precious than jewels and her value is far above rubies or pearls.

The heart of her husband trusts in her confidently and relies on and believes in her securely, so that he has no lack of [honest]gain or need of [dishonest] spoil.

She comforts, encourages, and does him only good as there is life within her.

She seeks out wool and flax and works with willing hands [to develop it].

She is like the merchant ships loaded with foodstuffs; she brings her household’s food from a far [country].

She rises while it is yet night and gets [spiritual] food for her household and assigns her maids their tasks.

She considers a [new] field before she buys or accepts it [expanding prudently and not courting neglect of her present duties by assuming other duties]; with her savings [of time and strength] she plants fruitful vines in her vineyard.

She girds herself with strength [spiritual, mental, and physical fitness for her God-given task] and makes her arms strong and firm.

She tastes and sees that her gain from work [with and for God] is good; her lamp goes not out but it burns on continually through the night [of trouble, privation, or sorrow, warning away fear, doubt and distrust].

She lays her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff.

She opens her hand to the poor, yes, she reaches out her filled hands to the needy [whether in body, mind, or spirit].

She fears not the snow for her family, for all her household are doubly clothed in scarlet.

She makes for herself coverlets, cushions, and rugs of tapestry.  Her clothing is of linen, pure and fine, and of purple [such as that of which the clothing of the priests and the hallowed cloths of the temple were made].

Her husband is known in the [city’s] gates, when he sits among the elders of the land.

She makes fine linen garments and leads others to buy them; she delivers to the merchants girdles [or sashes that free one up for service].

Strength and dignity are her clothing and her position is strong and secure; she rejoices over the future [the latter day or time to come, knowing that she and her family are in readiness for it]!

She opens her mouth in skillful and godly Wisdom, and on her tongue is the law of kindness [giving counsel and instruction].

She looks well to how things go in her household, and the bread of idleness (gossip, discontent, and self-pity) she will not eat.

Her children rise up and call her blessed (happy, fortunate, and to be envied); and her husband boasts of and praises her, [saying],

Many daughters have done virtuously, nobly, and well [with the strength of character that is steadfast in goodness], but you excel them all.

Charm and grace are deceptive, and beauty is vain [because it is not lasting], but a woman who reverently and worshipfully fears the Lord, she shall be praised!

Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her own works praise her in the gates [of the city]!

Proverbs 31:10-31 Amplified Bible

The Love Commandment

Which commandment is first and most important of all [in its nature]?

Jesus answered The first and principal one of all commands is:  Hear, O Israel, The Lord our God is one Lord;

And you shall love the Lord your God out of and with your whole heart and out of and with all your soul (your life) and out of and with all your mind (with your faculty of thought and your moral understanding) and out of and with all your strength.  This is the first and principal commandment.

The second is like it and is this, You shall love your neighbor as yourself.  There is no other commandment greater than these.

Mark 12:28-31 Amplified Bible

He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, he who rules his [own] spirit than he who takes a city.

Proverbs 16:32 Amplified Bible

He who covers and forgives an offense seeks love, but he who repeats or harps on a matter separates even close friends.

Proverbs 17:9  Amplified Bible

A man’s [moral] self shall be filled with the fruit of his mouth; and with the consequence of his words he must be satisfied [whether good or evil].

Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and they who indulge in it shall eat the fruit of it [for death or life].

Proverbs 18:20-21 Amplified Bible

Better is a dinner of herbs where love is than a fatted ox and hatred with it.

Proverbs 15:17 Amplifed Bible

He who turns away his ear from hearing the law [of God and man], even his prayer is an abomination, hateful and revolting [to God].

Proverbs 28:9 The Amplified Bible

The fear of man brings a snare, but whoever leans on, trusts in, and puts his confidence in the Lord is safe and set on high.

Proverbs 29:25 Amplified Bible

Many crave and seek the ruler’s favor, but the wise man [waits] for justice from the Lord.

Proverbs 29: 26 Amplified Bible

The wicked flee when no man pursues them, but the [uncompromisingly] righteous are bold as a lion.

Proverbs 28:1 Amplified Bible

It is a good and delightful thing to give thanks to the Lord, to sing praises [with musical accompaniment] to Your name, O Most High,

To show forth Your lovingkindness in the morning and Your faithfulness by night,

With an instrument of ten strings and with the lute, with a solemn sound upon the lyre.

For You, O Lord, have made me glad by Your works; at the deeds of Your hands I joyfully sing.

How great are Your doings, O Lord!  Your thoughts are very deep.

A man in his rude and uncultivated state knows not, neither does a [self-confident] fool understand this:

That though the wicked spring up like grass and all evildoers flourish, they are doomed to be destroyed forever.

But You, Lord, are on high forever.

For behold, Your adversaries, O Lord, for behold, Your enemies shall perish; all the evildoers shall be scattered.

But my horn (emblem of excessive strength and stately grace) You have exalted like that of a wild ox; I am anointed with fresh oil.

My eye looks upon those who lie in wait for me; my ears hear the evildoers that rise up against me.

The [uncompromisingly] righteous shall flourish like the palm tree [be long-lived, stately, upright, useful, and fruitful]; they shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon [majestic, stable, durable, and incorruptible].

Planted in the house of the Lord, they shall flourish in the courts of our God.

[Growing in grace] they shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be full of sap [of spiritual vitality] and [rich in the] verdure [of trust, love, and contentment].

[They are living memorials] to show that the Lord is upright and faithful to His promises; He is my Rock, and there is no unrighteousness in Him.

Psalm 92 The Amplified Bible

And He withdrew from them about a stone’s throw and knelt down and prayed, Saying, Father, if You are willing, remove this cup from Me; yet not My will, but [always] Yours be done. And there appeared to Him an angel from heaven, strengthening Him in spirit.

Luke 22:41-43 Amplified Bible

When He had said this, He spat on the ground and made clay (mud) with His saliva, and He spread it [as ointment] on the man’s eyes. And He said to him, Go, wash in the Pool of Siloam–which means Sent. So he went and washed, and came back seeing.

John 9:6-7 Amplified Bible

O give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; for his mercy and loving-kindness endure forever!

Let Israel now say that His mercy and loving-kindness endure forever.

Let the house of Aaron [the priesthood] now say that His mercy and loving-kindness endure forever.

Let those now who reverently and worshipfully fear the Lord say that His mercy and lonvingkindness endure forever.

Out of my distress I called upon the Lord; the Lord answered me and set me free and in a large place.

The Lord is on my side and takes my part.  He is among those who help me; therefore shall I see my desire established upon those who hate me.

It is better to trust and take refuge in the Lord than to put confidence in princes.

All nations (the surrounding tribes) compassed me about, but in the name of the Lord I will cut them off!

They compassed me about, yes, they surrounded me on everyside; but in the name of the Lord I will cut them off!

They swarmed about me like bees, they blaze up and reextinguished like a fire of thorns; in the name of the Lord I will cut them off!

You [my adversary] thrust sorely at me that I might fall, but the Lord helped me.

The Lord is my Strength and Song; and He has become my Salvation.

The voice of rejoicing and salvation is the tents and private dwellings of the [uncompromisingly] righteous:  the right hand of the Lord does valiantly and achieves strength!

The right hand of the Lord is exalted;  the right hand of the Lord does valiantly and achieves strength!

I shall not die but live, and shall declare the works and recount the illustrious acts of the Lord.

The Lord has chastened me sorely, but He has not given me over to death.

Open to me the [temple] gates of righteousness; I will enter through them, and I will confess and praise the Lord.

This is the gate of the Lord; the [uncompromisingly] righteous shall enter through it.

I will confess, praise, and give Thanks to You, for You have heard and answered me; and You have become my Salvation and Deliverer.

The stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone.

This is from the Lord and is His doing; it is marvelous in our eyes.

This is the day which the Lord has brought about; we will rejoice and be glad in it.

Save now, we beseech You, O Lord; send now prosperity, O Lord, we beseech You, and give to us success!

Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord; we bless you from the house of the Lord [you who come into His sanctuary under His guardianship].

The Lord is God, Who has shown and given us light [He has illuminated us with grace, freedom and joy].  Decorate the festival with leafy boughs and bind the sacrifices to be offered with thick cords [all over the priest’s court, right up] to the horns of the altar.

You are my God, and I will confess, praise, and give thanks to You; You are my God, I will extol You.

O give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; for His mercy and loving-kindness endure forever.

Psalm 118  The Amplified Bible.
